1954 Austin Healey 100-4 Convertible

Summary:
Used 1954
Location:
Lakewood, NJ
Description:

The seller is offering a 1954 Austin Healey 100-4 Convertible that he says had belonged to a family member since 1959 and was fully restored to original factory specifications in 1982. He says the roadster was originally from a Southern state and that the frame is “completely devoid of rust” and had no previous accident damage. “Every mechanical component, the body, and interior were restored to original factory-spec condition using original materials and colors,” he says. “I will include full documentation of the restoration.” In photos, this car presents very well, with the 41-year-old restoration still appearing quite good. The car, he says, was used only as an occasional Sunday afternoon drive and never in rain through those years. “The restoration workmanship was of the highest quality with considerable effort expended to ensure authenticity,” the seller states. He reports that the car has been driven just 3,000 miles since then. The odometer had been reset at some point, so the car’s true mileage is not known. The Austin Healey 100-4 debuted in 1953 as a collaboration between British automaker Austin and small-volume sports car builder Donald Healey. The “100” stood for the car’s claimed top speed. Austin Healey bodies were contract-built by Jensen in West Bromwich, England (which later made the Interceptor luxury model), and final assembly took place in the MG factory. POWERTRAIN The Austin 2.7-liter OHV inline-four was rated at 90 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque by the manufacturer when new. The seller says the engine is matching numbers and was entirely rebuilt to stock specifications in 1982 and has 3,000 miles on the rebuild. He says it starts easily when using the choke and affirms there is no smoke, nor any leaks or weeps. The original three-speed manual transmission and factory overdrive unit were rebuilt during the restoration, per the seller. He states that both operate as designed. EXTERIOR The seller says that the vehicle received a new paint job in the restoration, and he mentions no body blemishes in the black finish. He says the roadster top was rarely used. The windshield is described as in good shape with no leaks. He states that the side curtains are "new-original old stock", which are in their original carrying cases, and were "only installed once during restoration". (These are shown in the photos of the trunk.) All lighting is said to work. INTERIOR According to the seller, the car’s carpet is in good condition, and the interior trim is intact. He affirms the red leather seats were restored using original materials and colors and have “no defects.” The vehicle’s heat works, and all restored gauges function properly, he states. CHASSIS The seller says that the Austin Healey’s suspension, bushings, and shocks were completely restored in 1982 but that due to age, some components may need servicing again for driving. The Firestone F-560 tires are said to have been installed 3 years ago and have around 600 miles on them, per the seller. The 48-spoke wire wheels are reported to be in good condition and appear so in the provided photos. The seller says the car’s steering tracks properly with no play in the wheel. The four-wheel drum brakes are said to function as designed. DOCUMENTATION The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean New Jersey title in the owner’s name. The seller is assisting the owner, with his permission, to get the vehicle listed online. As noted, the sale will include documentation from the 1982 restoration. This 1954 Austin Healey 100-4 Convertible appears to wear an older restoration quite well after just 3,000 miles driven over 41 years. The classic British sports car could certainly be a draw at shows. 1954 Austin Healey 100-4 - YouTubeTrevor Holtzworth618 subscribers1954 Austin Healey 100-4Trevor HoltzworthSearchWatch laterShareCopy linkInfoShoppingTap to unmuteIf playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device.More videosMore videosYou're signed outVideos you watch may be added to the TV's watch history and influence TV recommendations.
