This 302-powered 1971 Ford Mustang Convertible, reportedly found on a farm in Virginia, has been used strictly for weekend pleasure drives for the past two decades, the seller says. A previous owner had the car’s original silver color changed to its current red. “The car is in excellent condition and runs great,” says the seller, who also notes the tires are “brand-new” and have less than 50 miles on them. FEATURES This Mustang’s F-code 302-cu.in. OHV V8 engine, which was rated at 210 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, is said to be original and with no rebuild history.The engine reportedly starts, idles, and runs well, with no smoke. The carburetor and radiator are said to be new.A three-speed automatic transmission is matched with the engine and it is said to shift smoothly.There are no known powertrain leaks.The red exterior color is a change from the original silver. The paintwork’s age is unknown and the seller notes it remains in “reasonably good shape,” with some “clouding” on the trunk lid and an apparent paint run on the left-rear corner.There is a small “pucker” dent on the upper area of the left-front fender, but no other dents, scratches, or paint chips, says the seller. The only known area of rust is a small spot below the trunk.The convertible is said to be in very good shape and operates normally, but there’s a small tear in the canvas. The same goes for the door panels and other trim.Apart from a broken rear-window knob, all the cabin’s trim and hardware are said to be intact and in good shape.The gas gauge doesn’t work, but there are no known issues with the other gauges.The heater works and so does an older, aftermarket cassette radio, but one of the rear speakers reportedly “goes in and out.”According to the seller, the brakes have been serviced recently, with new front brakes and resurfaced rear drums.The suspension elements have not been serviced during the seller’s ownership. An inspection and possible service are recommended.The BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires and Cragar S/S wheels are said to be “brand-new,” with less than 50 miles on them. Their DOT date codes are not visible in the photos. COMES WITH The seller has receipts for service performed during his ownership. NEEDS The dashboard and driver’s seat cover have splits.One of the rear-window knobs is broken.The fuel gauge does not work.The suspension should be inspected and possibly serviced.
